Jim Mora Playoffs ! ? Long VersionJim Mora's famous playoffs rant! Had to use sdp multimedia to wrench this from the incredibly clumsy, ill-designed, and -worst of all- proprietary fauxsports site. Now all can enjoy it!But seriously...Playoffs!?
Obama Calls For NCAA PlayoffsIn a 60 Minutes interview with Steve Kroft, President-elect Barack Obama laid out his plan to have playoffs at the end of the college football season.

Michael Jordan 1986 Playoffs: 63pts, Gm 2 Vs. CelticsMJ's 1st 50+pt game is this Legendary Game. It's still the playoff record and is ranked 3rd in the book "Michael Jordan's Top 50 Games".NBA Sophomore MJ was just 23 years old but he would show the world in just his 6th playoff game that there would never be another player like him again. This Celtics team was considered perhaps the greatest team ever. Having won 67 games, 40-1 at home, 31 straight at home and on a 14 win streak, MJ single-handedly almost dismantled them. After scoring 49 points in Game 1 (which I also have up on youtube), McHale said, "That will never happen again." The Celtics went back and brainstormed to stop MJ and came back to hold MJ to 63. At times, putting 4-5 bodies on Jordan, Jordan was well, still Jordan.MJ missed 64 games in the regular season with a broken foot and returned just 6 weeks earlier but in this game, the legend of Michael Jordan was born. Scoring on vicious attacks, athletic jumpers from everywhere and finesse and power moves all at once, MJ displayed an intensity to win and take the entire Boston Team all by himself. It was chilling to watch.Scaring the guts out of the Champion Celtics in their unbeatable home court, MJ played a game that still stands as the greatest post-season record of all-time with 63 points. The only quote you need to remember is Bird saying, "That was God disguised as Michael Jordan. He's the most awesome player I've ever seen...he was getting his points in the flow of the game...scary." Celtics coach KC Jones added, "I was watching and all I could see was this giant Jordan and everyone else was just in the background."

Michael Jordan 1989 Playoffs: Gm 5 Vs. Cavs, "THE SHOT"In this series deciding game, MJ attacked the basket with his usual finesse/ferocity to make sure the Bulls advanced to the next round. This is the game that features "The Shot" - the famous hanging jumper we keep seeing in all those highlights and commercials. But, people forget that that shot merely capped yet another masterful performance. MJ attacked the basket like man possessed to get his 44 points the hard way.People also forget that the Bulls lost to the Cavs in all 5 games during the regular season so they were not expected to challenge them at all. MJ's 39.8 ppg, 5.8 rebs and 8.2 asts during the series made sure that the playoffs told a different story. As usual, when it mattered most, on national TV, Game 5 in the playoffs, MJ raised his play and continued his flair for the dramatic to add to his legacy as the greatest playoff and clutch performer ever.

Michael Jordan 1993 Playoffs: Gm 4 Vs. NY Knicks, 54pts.This was a scary performance by MJ. With an injured shooting wrist, MJ was coming off one of his worst shooting games ever in game 3 - going just 3-18 for 22 (but with a near triple double with 8 rebs and 11 asts). With the media on him, MJ produced 54pts but the scary part was how he was able to shoot 60% on call. Of course, we saw this happen over and over hundreds of times throughout his whole career but it still never ceased to amaze. This was what MJ was all about - playing in a zone. But the scary part was how he was able to turn it on at will and do it all the time. This performance was just another notch in his legendary masterpieces and it was a badly needed one as the Bulls were threatened on their march to their first 3-peat by the powerful Knicks. With the bruiser NY team winning the first two games, MJ made sure game 4 was theirs by shooting deep jumpers over Starks. Going 6-9 in treys and 18-30 overall, he had a 'quiet' 54. Of course, it's always more fun seeing the dunks and drives but on fundamentals alone, MJ was still his spectacular self and of course, his efficiency guaranteed the only thing that really mattered: victory. As usual, on national TV, when everyone was watching how he might rebound off a bad game, with a knob on his injured wrist, MJ played - just like MJ.

Michael Jordan 1996 Playoffs: Gm 4: 45pts, Shaq/Penny SweptSeeking revenge for his rusty loss the past year against this Orlando Magic team, MJ sought redemption in this series. With a monster Shaq entering his prime and a monster, young Penny having his finest year, MJ didn't just want to beat this duo - he wanted to annihilate them. Nothing short of a sweep was acceptable and that's precisely what happened. In this game, MJ procured the sweep with yet another astonishing performance. Opening by hitting his first 7 shots, he finished with one of his 'super-zone' perfomances with 16-23 shooting for 70%. Again, on call, he produced a brilliant, efficient game to neutralize the combined 56 points scored by Shaq and Penny. Perhaps Shaq went to LA the next year because he had enough of MJ in the east.
Chicago Bulls @ Indiana Pacers, 1998 Playoffs, ECF Game 3: Reggie saves the dayHIGH QUALITY VERSION:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJrTGf0Wcgg&fmt=18A limping Reggie Miller scored 13 of his 28 points in the final 4 1/2 minutes and the Indiana Pacers survived a furious late rally by the Chicago Bulls and climbed back into the Eastern Conference finals with a 107-105 victory in Game Three."I stepped on Mike's foot in the middle of the third quarter," Miller said.Clearly hobbled, Miller nevertheless made three three-pointers, a 20-footer that beat the shot clock and the clinching free throws in the final 4:11. He was the only Pacer to score from the field in the last 6 1/2 minutes."It loosened up as the game went on," Miller said. "I knew I couldn't drive, so I basically just played off their mistakes."Miller made 9-of-15 shots, including 4-of-7 from behind the arc. Indiana's bench held a 43-25 scoring advantage, including 20-6 over the final 13-plus minutes."He said he could go," Pacers coach Larry Bird said. "He put everything on the line and stepped up and hit the big shots."Michael Jordan scored 30 points and Scottie Pippen added 23 for the Bulls, who suffered their first road loss of the postseason and had a five-game winning streak snapped. Chicago trimmed an eight-point deficit to 103-102 in just over a minute, but Rose and Davis each made a pair of clutch free throws before Miller sealed it."He was hurt and I don't know why we didn't go at him," Bulls guard Ron Harper said. "We had a chance in this game and we know we let a golden opportunity slip away."
Chicago Bulls @ New York Knicks, 1993 Playoffs, ECF Game 2: The Struggle withinIt was a typical Knicks' playoff victory, with drama, sensational defense, and physical play that led to ejections and heated emotions. The Chicago Bulls mounted a furious comeback, but New York made a game-winning stand in the final minute. John Starks made a spectacular driving, left-handed dunk that energized the crowd and his teammates. Charles Oakley dominated both backboards and made clutch free throws. And the Knicks remained masters of Madison Square Garden, where they have won 27 consecutive games.Taking another step toward dethroning the two-time NBA champions, the Knicks outwilled the Bulls, 96-91, in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference championship series last night. The victory gave New York a two-games-to-none lead in the four-of-seven-game series. And it gave the Bulls plenty to think about before the series shifts to Chicago for Game 3 on Saturday afternoon.Once again, the Knicks' frontline dominated, outrebounding the Bulls, 45-34. Once again, Michael Jordan (36 points, 12-for-32 shooting) faded late in the game, shooting just 5 for 16 in the second half after a 25-point first half. And once again, New York's multi-dimensional defense controlled the Bulls' two-dimensional offense of Jordan and Scottie Pippen (17 points)."We had a 14-point lead, they came back, but we weathered the storm," said Knicks Coach Pat Riley. "We're up 2-0 going to Chicago, and that's what we wanted. I think our team's confident. We held service, now the pressure does revert to them. We're going to have go into Chicago strong, but we did what we had to do at home."Then Starks made his memorable dunk. Ewing set the pick on B. J. Armstrong that freed Starks on the right baseline. Starks put his head down and went to the basket, where Horace Grant came over to try and help. Starks didn't care. He took off, a la Jordan, and threw in a ferocious left-handed slam dunk that will be replayed on newscasts for days to come."I saw the opening and there was nobody in the lane," said Starks, who did another superb defensive job on Jordan in the second half. "I went up hard, in case I got fouled, and dunked it."Not only did the Bulls lose the game, they lost their poise. Pippen, Chicago's all-star forward, was ejected with 7:34 left for throwing the ball at referee Bill Oakes after being called for a double-dribble. First Pippen held the ball after the call, then he tossed the ball at Oakes in disgust. An outraged Oakes ejected Pippen immediately.Yet the Bulls mounted a late rally, which included a bizarre play on which New York point guard Greg Anthony was ejected for committing a flagrant foul against Jordan. It happened with 4:16 left in the game, when Jordan drove to the basket and was met by Anthony, who hacked Jordan hard in the head with his left arm. The blow did not knock Jordan off his feet, but it was enough to send Anthony to the locker room."I thought that was totally uncalled for, and if I had my chance, I would've retaliated," Jordan said of Anthony's play. "But I didn't want to get kicked out of the game."Anthony saw the play differently."I didn't think it was warranted," Anthony said. "If you see a replay, you'll feel the same way. It was a hard foul, but I can't allow him to just go ahead and shoot a layup."Whatever the Knicks did at halftime, or whatever Riley said, should be bottled and saved for the next time New York needs it. New York' attitude starting the third quarter was ferocious, and they went on a 22-8 run to turn a 51-49 deficit just after halftime into a 71-57 lead. A Jordan ShowcaseA scintillating first half ended with the score tied at 49. Jordan showed his entire arsenal early, scoring 25 points by intermission. At times, it was spectacular. Jordan's best move of the half came on a driving layup when he glided past Doc Rivers, hung in midair between Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley, then kissed the ball softly off the glass. Jordan approached this like it was Game 7, and his reasoning was simple."We have to break through on their homecourt sometime to win this series," Jordan said before the game. "The sooner, the better."But the Bulls did not break through. Now the Knicks are in control, and the Bulls are in trouble.

Michael Jordan 1993 Playoffs: 35pts, Gm1 Vs. Atlanta HawksThe 1993 Bulls 'coasted' during the regular season just enough to secure home court. And after that, it was all business. MJ said he wanted to just skip the regular season altogether just to get to this first playoff game. Meeting Dominique's Hawks here, MJ again raised his adrenaline for the real season; notching 18 first quarter points and 35 overall on 58% shooting through just a bit over 3 quarters of play for the secure victory. Along the way, he dropped speedy pop-and-stops, a forward fading 3 and a handful of smartly-screened jumpers as if they were on yo-yo strings. Oh yeah, and he showed off his oven-mitt-sized hands a few times for the memory book. As Stephon Marbury once said after playing against MJ, "How can one person have so much game?"(A thank you goes out to J. Crawford for donating this game for upload.)

NBA Playoffs 08 Game 7 Boston 97-92 Cavs (Pierce vs Lebron)cavs should win that gameBOSTON, May 18 (AP) -- Paul Pierce hit a shot. Then LeBron James answered. Pierce hit another and so did James. It was like that all game long, two of the NBA's best trying to carry their teams to the next round. Pierce and the Boston Celtics succeeded, beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-92 on Sunday.Twenty years earlier there was another thrilling shootout in another seventh game of the Eastern Conference semifinals in Boston -- Larry Bird vs. Dominique Wilkins. And the result was the same: a narrow Celtics victory that sent them to the conference finals against Detroit.Pierce scored 41 points, James had 45 and Boston remained unbeaten in the playoffs at home, where the first two games against the Pistons will be played Tuesday and Thursday night."It is a great feeling," Pierce said. "We knew this was going to be a tough, tough series."In a seven-game series in which the road team never won, the Celtics had many green-clad fans on their side. Lucky the Mascot held up a sign reading, "ROCK THE GARDEN!" and the crowd roared. Pierce got the loudest ovation when he was introduced with his nickname, "The Truth."And when the game started, one fan bellowed, "Not today, LeBron!"It wasn't Wilkins' day on May 22, 1988, even though he outscored Bird in Boston's 118-116 win over Atlanta at the old Boston Garden. Wilkins finished with 47 points, with 16 in the fourth quarter, and Bird had 34, with 20 in the final period."I'm very aware of the game," Pierce said. "They don't ever let you forget it when you look up to the jumbotron."James has seen plenty of highlights of that mano-a-mano tussle."We both tried to will our team to victory and, just like Dominique Wilkins, I ended up on the short end and the Celtics won again," he said. "I think the second round of the postseason, Game 7, these fans will finally have an opportunity to forget a little bit about what Larry Bird and Dominique Wilkins did and remember what Paul and LeBron did."This will go down in history."Pierce hit 13 of 23 shots and James went 14-for-29.

Michael Jordan 1992: Playoffs, Gm 3 Vs. Heat, 56 pts. This was the Heat's first time in playoffs. Unfortunately, they met MJ in his early championship prime. MJ averaged 39.5 pts, 12 rebs and 7.5 assists going into this game. He started off slow with just 2 points in the first quarter. But then, he got serious with 54 in quarters 2-4 to get 56 pts while shooting 20-30. It was a chilling performance. The Milwaukee Brewers won the NL Wild Card Sunday when they won and the Mets lost; Dodgers, Cubs and Phillies are in the playoffs, as are the Red Sox, Angels and Rays in the AL, where the Central Division champ has yet to be decided.
