Lillehammer 1994 CC - Olympic Flag, Sissel Kyrkjebø and HymnThe Olympic Flag was carried out of the stadium by eight of Norway's best summer and winter athletes of the past then.As for the singing of the Olympic Hymn itself, it was sung by Sissel Kyrkjebø. Her Olympic Hymn rendition, in NORWEGIAN, is considered one of the best performances of it ever. On top of that, she sings the beginning part of it in "a cappella." It is a musical term that means she sings without any music to accompany her, like you hear with some church hymn music. That, in itself, is much more difficult than most people realize. She is still a singer today. As for the way the Olympic Flag made its exit, it was quite a show. You will not see it like that often in a closing ceremony. Also, it was "upside-down" if you know what I mean.

Sydney 2000 OC - Cathy Freeman Lights The Olympic CauldronThe biggest moment of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games opening ceremony. An innovative way of lighting the Olympic Flame to the cauldron by Atlanta 1996 Olympic silver medalist in the women's 400m event at the time: Cathy Freeman. She went on to win the Olympic gold medal in these Games in the same women's 400m event.Note: Very sorry for the poor quality of the picture near the end of this clip. The VCR tape I had this recorded on was showing its age and I was concerned that I was going to lose this entire show because of that.I know that there is other YouTube uploads of this scene. You may want to look them up for better quality than this clip.At the end of this clip, fireworks go off at one of Stadium Australia, as the cauldron itself was assisted mechanically, to officially conclude the opening ceremony of these Games.
Chaos marks Paris Olympic torch relay - 08 April 2008Al Jazeera's Tim Friend reports on another day of chaos on the route of the Olympic torch. The latest leg was in Paris, where protests forced organisers to abandon carrying the flame on foot, in favour of a bus ride. The massive French police deployment was not enough to contain demonstrations against China's human-rights policy and treatment of Tibet. Some protestors even called the torch the "flame of shame".
