For more information about Prof. Friedman and "Total Leadership", please visit http://www.totalleadership.org/Stew Friedman is the founder of Total Leadership. You've got to be a great person, performing well in all domains of your life — your work, your home, your community, and your private self. The good news is that, contrary to conventional wisdom about "balance," you don't have to assume that these domains compete in a zero-sum game. Total Leadership is a game-changing blueprint for how to perform well as a leader not by trading off one domain for another, but by finding mutual value among all four. With engaging examples and clear instruction, Friedman provides more than thirty hands-on tools for using these proven principles to produce stronger business results, find clearer purpose in what you do, feel more connected to the people who matter most, and generate sustainable change.

Authors@google: Sam GoslingAuthor Sam Gosling visits Google's headquarters in Mountain View, CA, to discuss his book "Snoop: What Your Stuff Says About You". This event took place June 17, 2008, as part of the authors@google series.Does what's on your desk reveal what's on your mind? Do those pictures on your walls tell true tales about you? And is your favorite outfit about to give you away? For the last ten years psychologist Sam Gosling has been studying how people project (and protect) their inner selves. By exploring our private worlds (desks, bedrooms, even our clothes and our cars), he shows not only how we showcase our personalities in unexpected-and unplanned-ways, but also how we create personality in the first place, communicate it others, and interpret the world around us. Gosling, one of the field's most innovative researchers, dispatches teams of scientific snoops to poke around dorm rooms and offices, to see what can be learned about people simply from looking at their stuff.Sam Gosling is an associate professor of psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He has spent the last decade conducting research on how personality is expressed and perceived in everyday contexts. He has been profiled by the New York Times, Psychology Today, and other publications, and he is featured in Malcolm Gladwell's Blink. This is his first book. He lives in Austin, Texas.

Authors@google: Richard ThalerEvery day, we make decisions on topics ranging from personal investments to schools for our children to the meals we eat to the causes we champion. Unfortunately, we often choose poorly. The reason, the authors explain, is that, being human, we all are susceptible to various biases that can lead us to blunder. Our mistakes make us poorer and less healthy."Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth, and Happiness" shows that by knowing how people think, we can design choice environments that make it easier for people to choose what is best for themselves, their families, and their society. Using colorful examples from the most important aspects of life, Thaler and Sunstein demonstrate how thoughtful "choice architecture" can be established to nudge us in beneficial directions without restricting freedom of choice.Richard H. Thaler is the Ralph and Dorothy Keller Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science and Economics and the director of the Center for Decision Research at the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business. This event took place on May 29, 2008, as a part of the Authors@Google series. Leading@google: Tony SchwartzTony Scwartz spoke at the Google headquarters in Mountain View, Californiaon 4/17/2008 as part of the Leading@google speaker series.Tony Schwartz is the founder and president of The Energy Project http://www.theenergyproject.com/home.html. He is the co-author of "The Power of Full Engagement", which has been translated into 24 languages. Tony has written three other books, including What Really Matters: Searching for Wisdom in America. His most recent article, "The Science of Stamina," was published in the October 2007 issue of the Harvard Business Review.Demand is relentlessly rising. Our capacity is not keeping pace. The traditional solution to higher demand has been to invest more time. Unfortunately, time is finite, and most of us have no hours left to invest. Energy, however, can be systematically expanded --- and it can also be regularly renewed. To operate at our best, we need four energy sources: physical (quantity), emotional (quality), mental (focus), and the energy of the human spirit (purpose). This talk will focus on the role of energy in fueling sustainable high performance, and in motivating others.

Google Chrome First ImpressionsIn this video, I give my first impressions of the fresh, new web browser, Google Chrome. Chrome was developed by Google in order to improve performance of web applications. They have rewritten underlining code for javascript to improve speeds. Apple and Mozilla are also developing similar technologies as well. My first impressions are fairly positive. Some nifty features that I really liked were the Task Manager which allows you to view each tab as a process, and then view its cpu, memory, and network consumption. If you navigate to about:memory in Google Chrome, it gives you a great overview of system resources for Google Chrome AND other open browsers such as Firefox. I have run into some problems which I kind of expected from a "beta" product. For example, if you navigate to a youtube.com video and make it full screen, it will crash the flash plugin. Since Google has been sensitive to browser crashes, these type of crashes won't bring down the entire browser. Simple refreshes will bring back flash on open tabs. Neat. There are a wealth of other features that are available but these are the ones that stood out to me after half a day of light usage. Enjoy!Google Tech TalksJanuary, 16 2008ABSTRACTDo telepathy, clairvoyance and other "psi" abilities exist? The majority of the general population believes that they do, and yet fewer than one percent of mainstream academic institutions have any faculty known for their interest in these frequently reported experiences. Why is a topic of enduring and widespread interest met with such resounding silence in academia? The answer is not due to a lack of scientific evidence, or even to a lack of scientific interest, but rather involves a taboo. I will discuss the nature of this taboo, some of the empirical evidence and critical responses, and speculate on the implications.Speaker: Dean RadinDean Radin is a researcher and author in the field of parapsychology. He is Senior Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences and four-time former President of the Parapsychological Association. He holds an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and a masters degree in electrical engineering and a doctorate in educational psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has worked at AT&T Bell Labs and GTE Labs, mainly on human factors of advanced telecommunications products and services, and held appointments at Princeton University, Edinburgh University, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, SRI International, Interval Research Corporation, and Boundary Institute. At these facilities he was engaged in basic research on exceptional human capacities, principally psi phenomena.
