Democratic Apocalypse - ZimbabweMay 2008With the second round of voting set for 27th June, anyone known to support the MDC or to have voted against Robert Mugabe is in real physical danger.Violence towards opponents of the ruling Zanu PF government increases every day. Hundreds were beaten while "an estimated 31 people were killed...and tens of thousands intimidated and forced from their homes." Many now seek sanctuary in the MDC's headquarters in Harare; but for the staunchest opponents of the regime there is no safe haven. With their few possessions they flee to neighbouring countries and wait for the violence to end.

KS Gov Kathleen Sebelius' Democratic Response to SOTUtranscript: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/01/28/politics/main3762263.shtml"I'm Kathleen Sebelius, Governor of the State of Kansas. And I am grateful for the opportunity to speak with you tonight.I'm a Democrat, but tonight, it really doesn't matter whether you think of yourself as a Democrat or a Republican or an Independent. Or none of the above.Instead, the fact you're tuning in this evening tells me each of you is, above all, an American, first. You are mothers, and fathers. Grandparents and grandchildren. Working people and business-owners. Americans, all.And the American people - folks like you and me - are not nearly as divided as our rancorous politics might suggest. [...]We are Americans sharing a belief in something greater than ourselves, a nation coming together to meet challenges and find solutions; to share sacrifices and share prosperity; and focus, once again, not only on the individual good but on the common good.On behalf of the new American majority - the majority of elected officials at the national, state and local level, and the majority of Americans - we ask you, Mr. President, to join us. We are ready to work together, to be the America we have been - and can be once again.Thank you for listening. God bless and sleep well. And in the morning, let's get to work."* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *http://cuzimjustabill.com/* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Congo's Tin Soldiers - Democratic Republic of CongoMay 2006The West's demand for Cassiterite is fuelling the killings in Congo. Militias rely on slave labour to extract the ore, forcing locals to work in sub-human conditions."Once you get down there, there's no air", describes one worker. "The rocks often bury us and you have to crawl through the tiny hole, using your fingers to dig." Labourers like him often go unpaid. They're forced to work at gunpoint by militias operating outside the control of the government. "Different armed groups do what they want with the population", laments minister Buta Muiso. But British businessman Ketankumar Kotecha sees nothing wrong in buying casiterite from the militias. "If I didn't do it, someone else would. I am not here as some kind of moral saviour."

The Obama Democratic Mandate - Obama Watchhttp://TheFrankFactor.comIn spite of a gamed and prostituted election system, America has sent a resounding condemnation tothe Republican party and all the monumental corruption, failure and deceit of the Bush Cheneyadministration.Bush never won an election in the first place so the Obama victory is a first in over a decadejust for the fact that he won by a significant majority of the popular vote as well as by acrushing majority of electoral votes, and ACORN's hired help making up voters like Mighty Mouse,Mike Hunt and Phil McCrackin didn't swing the victory- sorry wing nuts. GET OVER IT!You lost. Suck it!Karl Rove, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush have officially eviscerated the Republican party. Thosedrooling freaks that turned out for McCain Palin rallies really put a few more nails in the coffinof the Republican party. It's not a divine secret or some indication of higher intellectual ability to believe that moneyand power and those that have it wield a disproportionate influence on the political systems ofall nations including and especially America. The important question is what are we going to doabout it?Thats where we need to focus our attention and efforts and that is likely where the biggestdifferences lie.The fact is that it will take time dedication, patience, perseverance and involvement to changethings. much of which is just too demanding for those who would rather dress up like super heroesand blow shit up or hide in their cabins 'till the Lord descends from the clouds as they fondletheir ammo. This election is important but it is just the first tiny step in a long uphill journey.Let's also not forget the Republican knob polishing Democrats in Congress that helped stick theicepick in Lady Liberty's back.We must stay on top of this thing. I have suspicions that Barack is going to govern from thecenter, but there are issues that we as Liberals should be prepared to fight for and resistcompromise on.It remains to be seen if Barack will turn back the Constitution desecrating Civil Rights trashingpolicies put in place by Bush the Bumbler and the Republican freaks in Congress. HE could fail usmiserably- or he may not but we can't give up and remain silent.Government makes a difference and we can make a difference in government for better or worse. Ifwe all stay involved, if we make it part of our lives, part of being a responsible American, parent, and human being, we can bring about the change we want to see.We have to be patient and persistent.Abstinence is not the best policy for the future of America.Let's stay together. Let's work together.

Democratic Presidential Debate in Chicago-Pt 2 of 11-8/7/07Part 2 of 11. Keith Olbermann hosts the Democratic Presidential Candidates' debate in Chicago, 8/7/07 Candidates speaking in this portion of the debate are Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden.DISCLAIMER:I 'disable comments' for two reasons:1) I think the video speaks for itself,2) I do not see the value in someone commenting, "Keith rulz! and I agree with everything he says", and another person commenting "Olbermann the dork needs to take his Groucho Marx eyebrows and leave on a LONG vacation. He is the most pathetic figure on television. Oh...sorry Rosie...the second most pathetic figure".YouTube does doesn't give enough space (500 characters) for intelligent comments or thoughtful dialogue.I believe that we're in this mess because people think that by posting a comment on the internet somewhere, they're civic-minded and making a difference when, in fact, the only thing that makes a difference is commenting where people with power will hear you and fear your removing them from power: Through phone calls and snail mail to your elected officials and marching in the streets.
