Postcard to U.S. President: HavanaPeople in Cuba send first wishes to new U.S. President-elect Barack Obama.Among the reaction, Cubans said Obama's campaign vow to ease the 46-year-old U.S. trade embargo against Cuba and his willingness to consider dialogue with the Cuban government were a breath of fresh air after almost eight years of tough talk and hard-line policies from the Bush adminstration.1. (English) TAMARIT SAYING: "Obama, you are the hope for millions of people so things improve throughout the world. The war should end and relations between Cuba and the United States, maybe, should improve in the future. We hope for that."2. (Spanish) 18-YEAR OLD HOSPITALITY STUDENT YAIMA TORRES SAYING: "I hope there is an improvement for Cuba, for the world; may our presidents unite to help the world progress. I am also hoping for an end to the war, that the money and economy of the United States be for the people and not to send bombs to Iraq or Afghanistan as they have been doing."3. (Spanish) 31-YEAR-OLD MILITARY DOCTOR JOBEDIS MATINES SAYING: "My message to the new president would be to end the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and to end the blockade that the United States has in place against Cuba which impedes us to further develop as a free country."4. (Spanish) 24-YEAR-OLD MEDICAL STUDENT REGINO FERRER SAYING: "The message I have for the new United States president is to eliminate the injustices that are being committed around the world, he has the power to do it, he (Obama) can do it."

Cuba after CastroFidel Castro came to power in Cuba on December 31, 1959. Expropriation, nationalization of the industry and the departure of more than two and a half million Cubans followed. But also the advancement of health care and education, and a continuing struggle to turn Cuba into an ideal communist state. In Miami the great countdown has begun. The Cubans who have fled the socialist experiment over the past 45 years have faith again. The momentum is there, or at least close, so the exiles in Miami hope. They'll soon be able to take possession of Cuba again and start reconstruction, from communist utopia to Caribbean investment paradise. In Miami, where 1.2 million Cuban exiles live, Cuban organizations, companies and people are ready for the post-Castro era. This documentary takes stock of the scenarios people in Miami envision for Cuba after Castro and of thepossible consequences for the island and its inhabitants.Director: Gijs Meyer Swantee, Doke RomeijnProducer: Frank Wiering

Neighbourhood Vigilantes - CubaJanuary 2007Castro may be seriously ill but his autocratic regime shows no signs of relaxing its grip on power. A network of neighbourhood spies ensures 'dangerous subversives' are kept in check. There are more than 135,000 Committees for the Defence of the Revolution (CDRs) in Cuba. There main purpose is to ensure that nothing -- or no one -- puts the achievements of the Revolution at risk. "With the help of the CDRs, we know who is who and who does what", explains Ruben Perez, Deputy Manager of the CDRs. Committees can hand out warnings to citizens deemed acting inappropriately. Those who fail to change their behaviour are then imprisoned for up to four years. People can also be imprisoned for moving from one town to another without a visa. When released, political prisoners are constantly monitored. "I am like a prisoner in my own neighbourhood", complains one former prisoner. "I'm afraid to visit anyone because I don't like to complicate anyone's life by my presence". Few people expect life to change soon. "I don't have any illusions about Fidel Castro's death leading to major democratic changes", states one man. "The generation that created this system will still be in power".

Cuban Salsa Suelta - Havana, CubaClip of the Boogalu Productions DVD "Salsa Suelta Candela".for complete info go to the website:http://www.boogalu.com/generic137.htmlSalsa Suelta means "loose salsa" ...salsa danced without a partner. Have you seen those great step routines many salsa band members do on stage? The Cubans call it salsa suelta.Similar to rueda de casino, salsa suelta is initiated when people want to party and dance together as a larger group. But instead of dancing in a circle as in rueda, salsa suelta is danced in lines. With an emphasis on step routines combined with an imaginative variety of gestures and moves, salsa suelta is an easy going dance style that can be learned as you go. Because there is no partner involved it can be danced:~ in mixed groups large and small~ by yourself~ when you want to break apart in regular salsa dancing~ as a way to teach salsa steps and salsa choreographiesThis DVD features Cuban style salsa suelta inspired from the dance culture of the barrios of Havana. The moves have evolved from a variety of Cuban dance traditions including rumba, orisha dance, son, cha cha cha, mambo, casino, plus the more modern influences of timba and hip hop.The steps, routines, and changes are initiated by a leader who can direct the action using a variety of techniques including: - calling out the name of the moves - hand gestures - demonstrating with their bodyLeaders repeat the steps and moves long enough for followers to catch on. Followers imitate what the leader is doing and change steps when the leader changes. The Salsa Suelta Candela DVD has six sections:1- Introduction2- Salsa Suelta Performance3- Salsa Suelta Basic Steps4- Combination Moves Advanced5- Dancing On and Off the Beat6- Combination Moves Beginning
