PADDY CASEYBALCONYTV.COM 29/02/2008PRESENTED BY TOM MILLETTIrish singer/songwriter Paddy Casey's years as a busker on the streets of Galway and his home town of Dublin served him well. Not only did it allow him to associate from an early age with future breakout artists like Glen Hansard (of the Frames), Mundy, and Mark Dignam, but he developed a keen instinct for the type of melody and songwriting that are immediate and arresting, but with a natural intimacy not often heard in conventional pop music. Though an admitted pure soul devotee, Casey performs music that is heavily informed by its medium -- the singer and his acoustic guitar -- coming across as if Bob Dylan had taken to imitating Nina Simone, with elements of Prince and Public Enemy thrown in for good measure.Casey began busking on Dublin's streets in the early '90s while still in his early teens. In 1998, the earnest street musician became a cog in the major-label machine, signing to Sony subsidiary S2 Records at the behest of Spencer Davis Group bassist turned A&R man Muff Winwood, who had spotted Casey performing in Dublin and quickly became enamored. Heading into the studio later that year just to transfer some basic ideas to tape, Casey inadvertently wound up recording his debut album, Amen (So Be It). Released in June of 1999, the album debuted in the Top Twenty of the Irish albums chart, eventually going triple platinum, and was awarded the Best Debut Album award at the Hot Press Irish Music Awards. Perhaps an overly self-conscious statement of the artist's diverse palette, the album was nonetheless accomplished, with a range of styles integrated into his folky soul core, from jazz to funk to reggae, and with hip-hop beats and scratches subtly incorporated; however, Amen (So Be It)'s most endearing moments were its simplest, and Casey soon became well known for his Dylan-esque protest song "Sweet Suburban Sky," which was featured prominently on U.S. television show Dawson's Creek.Though the album was released in the U.S. in June of 2000, over three years passed before a follow-up was issued, an explanation for his absence alluded to in its title. Living was issued in Ireland in October of 2003 and in the U.K. in March of 2004, following the unprecedented success in Ireland of lead single "Saints and Sinners," eventually going 12 times platinum. The same year, Casey recorded two tracks for charity album Even Better Than the Real Thing, Vol. 2: a new arrangement of "Saints and Sinners" featuring the Dublin Gospel Choir, and an acoustic rendering of Blackstreet's "No Diggity" (a longtime live favorite).Living was reissued in Ireland in November of 2004 as a double-disc set including B-sides and rarities. The staggered release of the album led Casey to be honored with the Best Irish Male award at both the 2004 and 2005 Meteor Irish Music Awards. During the first half of 2007, Casey recorded his third studio album, Addicted to Company, Pt. 1, featuring a guest appearance by former bandmate and solo artist Declan O'Rourke. It was released in Ireland and the U.K. the following September, with the title track simultaneously released as a single. ~ Dave Donnelly, All Music Guidehttp://www.paddycasey.com/http://www.myspace.com/thepaddyspaceyTune in again tomorrow!!!

Casey Calvert[[IF YOU'RE HERE TO TRASH TALK CASEY, THEN JUST LEAVE. WHY WATCH A VIDEO DEDICATED TO HIM IF YOU DON'T EVEN LIKE HIM?]]Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert, 26, was pronounced dead on Saturday after police were called to the band's tour bus outside Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club around 2:30 p.m. and found him unconscious. The Washington Post reported that Calvert's death came one day after he and his bandmates — frontman JT Woodruff, guitarist Micah Carli, bassist Matt Ridenour and drummer Eron Bucciarelli — boarded the bus to begin their Wintour 2007 outing, which kicked off Friday night in Detroit. Police are still awaiting results of an autopsy, though some reports speculate that his death might have been caused by a pre-existing condition related to acute asthma.News of Calvert's untimely death is being greeted with shock and sadness by his fans and his fellow musicians, who remembered him as a kind and caring soul who loved to laugh and loved being in a band with his best friends. An autopsy report released today has confirmed that Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert died as a result of "acute combined effects of opiate, citalopram and clonazepam intoxication."Calvert had battled depression for some time, and had been prescribed a variety of medical treatments. It appears that these medications, taken in tandem with an unnamed opiate, led to an accidental case of suffocation due to the involuntary closure of his airways. It has been suggested by the band that the opiate in question was the painkiller Vicodin, which the band members speculated in a statement had been prescribed to him following a dental procedure.Reads the statement: "From the time of the incident, we suspected a possible drug interaction as the cause. Casey wrestled with depression for as long as we knew him. He saw numerous doctors and took an ever-changing array of medicines to get better. He finally had his depression under control."The band members were also careful to point that there was no indication that Calvert had been abusing drugs intentionally. "According to the toxicology report, the cause of death was due to a fatal interaction between depression meds, anxiety meds and an opiate ... Opiates being mentioned along with the term 'substance abuse,' coupled with 'rock star' stereotypes immediately conjure up images of hard drug use and addiction, which simply couldn't be further from the truth in Casey's instance.""What the toxicology report doesn't show is that prior to us leaving for tour, Casey had a root canal and was prescribed Vicodin for the pain. Once again, Casey was not involved in anything illegal, nor was he a substance abuser."Rest In Peace Casey Calvert.Songs:Stop Crying Your Heart Out - Oasis.Wake Up Call - Hawthorne Heights.

Thank You Cindy - Camp Casey Easter 2007Camp Casey is an amazing experience no matter what time of the year you attend. My Brother, Uncle, and I attended last August during the middle of a drought during 100 degree weather. We stayed a week and despite the heat, and some frustrations with our tent and being stuck in a tent with each other for a week, we had an absolutely amazing and truly life changing time at the Camp. My Mother and I attended again this past week for Camp Casey Easter. We met so many activists from all over the country who came to support Cindy and the peace movement. Cindy Sheehan has inspired us all to become more involved and I know personally she is one of my own role models in the peace movement. Thank you Cindy for all you have done and continue to do to inspire us. This video is just one small token of my appreciation. Please stop by Gold Star Families for Peace and consider donating what you can to help Cindy and others continue to spread the word about this immoral war based on the Bush administration's lies.http://www.gsfp.org/Video created by Ava Lowery:http://www.peacetakescourage.com/Music by Kevin MacLeod

What's Left Of Me [Derek/Casey]READ THIS BEFORE YOU WATCH!!!Fandom: Life With DerekEdited in: Windows Movie MakerUpload Date: 09/06/2006First off, I'd like to mention that this is only the first video I've ever made, so please excuse the poor quality of the general video, haha. Secondly, this video was inspired by me listening to the song over and over again and thinking, "Hey. What would make Derek ask Casey to take what's left of him?" And thus, I came up with this nifty story and decided to make a video out of it. Oh, also, it's AU, if you didn't already figure that out.Essentially, Derek and Casey have been together for a while now and have shared a lot of memories. One day, however, Derek meets Casey's cousin, Vicky, and Casey finds him cheating on her with Vicky. She decides that she can't take it and breaks up with Derek. She develops a crush on Derek's best friend, Sam, however, and starts to date him. Derek regrets what happens and tries to move on, dating a girl named Sandra. Casey, jealous, gets into an argument with Sam and ends up breaking up with him. In the end, Derek realizes that he's hurt Casey, and asks Casey to take him back - take what's left of him - because he still loves her.Enjoy the video! Comments, feedback, and constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks!PLEASE RATE!
